Broadband in Cheswick Green Village

Members of the Parish Council have been trying since 2018 to get an improved broadband service for those who live in the original village so that residents can have a choice of fast broadband provider. We have not met with success in negotiations with Openreach who will only provide fibre to the premises (FTTP) at a huge cost even though they are currently installing it both on Creynolds Lane and on the remaining part of the Cheswick Place development without charge. Like the original village both these areas also have Virgin media. It appears that they are working via exchanges and are unwilling at present to upgrade those of us on the Earlswood exchange.

As a result we have now been in touch with CityFibre who provide the infrastructure and have agreements with several different internet service providers. They are currently moving into Solihull and are looking to extend the areas they cover. They have asked that residents register an interest with them to see what sort of demand there would be from within the village. This can be done by going to www.cityfibre.com, inserting your postcode and then following the instructions on their website. If we can get CityFibre to provide the infrastructure residents should then be able to enjoy a choice of fast internet providers which is currently not the case. A reliable fast service is increasingly becoming a necessity rather than a luxury particularly in the current situation where more people are working from home.
